LeBron James Reacts to Williams Trade
August 28, 2008
In a three-way trade completed on Wednesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired point guard Mo Williams from the Bucks. The deal gives the Cavs additional offensive firepower, as well as someone to help LeBron James with ballhandling duties.
On Friday, before practice with the U.S. Men's Senior National Team, James had the opportunity to comment on the deal.
"It's gonna help us," James said. "I'm very excited to get a guy like Mo Williams on our team. He's one of the most underrated guards that we have in our league, and he's gonna bring some explosion to us offensively. And defensively, he's very good."
When asked if the trade improved the Cavs, James was clear and succinct.
"Absolutely," he replied. "We're a better team now."
Williams, 25, has five NBA seasons under his belt and averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 assists in 66 games for Milwaukee last season, shooting .480 from the field. He averaged 26.0 points and 9.0 assists in four games against Cleveland , helping the Bucks beat the Cavs three times in 2007-08.
The last player, other than James, to average more than five assists per game for the Cavs was Jeff McInnis in 2004-05.
