LeBron James Receives Community Assist Award

Not only is LeBron James the king of the court he also is the king of local charity. Today the NBA awarded his efforts by honoring James with the NBA Community Assist Award for the month of June. Last month James raised $150,000 for LeBron James Family Foundation, the Akron Area YMCA and the Akron Urban League during the “King for Kids Bike-A-Thon” which is in its third year. James has been involved in a number of off the court charity works since he came into the NBA in 2004.
“Giving back to the community is very important to me, especially since I grew up in the same neighborhoods as the people I want to help,” said James in a press release from the Cleveland Cavilers and added. “Along with my Foundation, I am committed to bringing families together and showing kids how important it is that they do well in school, stay active and make a real difference in the world around them.”
For being named the NBA Community Assist Award recipient James will will receive the David Robinson Plaque.
James will be too busy to be charitable in the next couple months. He heads to Beijing , China , as Team USA will try to win the gold medal in basketball next month.
