March 4, 2008
LeBron James today was named the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Month for the second straight month.
James averaged 30.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game in 14 February games. He also won the award in January by averaging 32.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game.
James has now won the award seven times in his career: twice this season, once in 2006-07, twice in 2005-06 and twice during the 2004-05 campaign.
According to the Cavs release, James led the NBA in points per game (30.2) and scored at least 25 points in all 14 February games. He led all Eastern Conference players in assists per game and ranked 11th in rebounds while posting nine double-doubles. James set a career high with four straight double-doubles from Feb. 19-24 including two triple-doubles.
Over a three-game span from Feb. 19-22, James posted at least 25 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists in each game. He joined Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson as the only three players to ever reach those levels in all three categories in each of three consecutive
games.
On Feb. 27 at Boston, James scored 26 points and became the youngest player in NBA history to reach 10,000 career points.
The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant was named the Western Conference Player of the Month. Other nominees for Eastern Conference Player of the Month were Detroit's Chauncey Billups, Orlando's Dwight Howard and Philadelphia's Andre Miller.
The Cavs also announced that forward Kaniel Dickens and guard Billy Thomas have been signed to their second 10-day contracts. Both players signed their first 10-day contracts on Feb. 22, following the Cavs trades with Chicago and Seattle.
